6 Month Milestone Session in Manassas, Virginia

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited back to do portraits for this little one's 6 Month Milestone Session out in Manassas, Virginia.  Her mama had booked her first milestone session for her back when she was a couple months old.  Now that baby is sitting up, and has even more personality, Mom wanted some updated images!

I always love getting to see the little ones I photograph as they grow up.  It's so fun watching them develop a personality and explore the world.  And seriously, how could you resist this smiling face?!

6 Month Milestone Portrait Session

I chose a soft pink backdrop and the white wool that we used for her original session.  That way they would have a similar feel, without being exactly the same.  Now, if Mom ever decides to frame the add the images to a family album the spreads will easily work together.  And like before, Mom chose a wonderful family heirloom to feature in her images.  In her first session we used some beautiful stuffed animal keepsakes from Mom.  Now that she is sitting up on her own, Mama wanted to feature an heirloom rocking chair, which is perfect for the 6 month milestone portraits (or sitter sessions as they are sometimes called).

Importance of Family Heirlooms

Adding these keepsakes like the rocking chair are such a wonderful way to honor these precious items.  I always encourage families to consider adding these elements to their photos.  It helps to keep the story of each keepsake alive for the next generation.  I sadly know of too many family heirlooms that have been inherited, and the family simply doesn't know the story.  They know it was important to Grandma, but not why.  Or they know it was in their Aunt's home, but they don't know who it came from originally.  By preserving these items in pictures, we help keep their their story alive.  We talk about them when we look at the images with our children.  We tell the stories of our past.

This was also a wonderful time to get some photographs with Mom and her sweet baby girl together.  I love capturing the tenderness and simple adoration.  They practically glow!
